Andreas Abi Permana : Perservance And Confidence Is The Key To Success

Andreas Abi Permana is a student from the Duta Bangsa University (UDB) Solo who is currently pursuing college in Information Technology. Andreas himself is one of the many students at Duta Bangsa University who achieve brilliant achievements by succeeding becoming ranked second in the National Student Performance for Information and Communication Technology (GEMASTIK) held by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti). He is also one of the founders of Paguyuban Linux Solo community. 

The beginning of Andreas’s journey

Even though he come from the middle class family, this did not dampen Andreas’s interest in deepening his knowledge of Information Technology. In fact, he pursued this knowledge since he was in junior high school. He is also actively studying the material presented by his teacher.

“The first time I learn about Information Technology was in junior high school. After that I strengthen my knowledge by continuing in the SMK majoring in Computer Network Engineering (TKJ)” Andreas said. 

Andreas also said how important the Information Technology in this era that increasingly attached to technology. This technology that increasingly fast and developing, is what underlies Andreas to pursue Information Technology knowledge that many companies would need in the future.

His success becoming the second winner in GEMASTIK

The highlight of Andreas’s success was when he could bring his group (called the Mandiri group) along with the good name of Duta Bangsa University to the final round of GEMASTIK in 2018 which was held by the Indonesian Ministry of Technology Research and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti). This is one of the most precious moments every member of the Mandiri group can not forget, especially Andreas.

He revealed that there were so many things that he and his teammates had to prepare to reach the final stage of GEMASTIK. “Of course, the preparation that I needed was very long. I learned a lot from my friends, seniors, and teachers. Of course, there were also many friends who supported me. At first, I can not believe that we made it into the final stage.”

Andreas also expressed his anxiety when he had to face his opponents who came from well-known universities in Indonesia. “I felt insecure because there were many rivals from big universities in Indonesia with over 1 team representative. However, I am still confident and did my best. Thank God, I managed to become the 2nd winner.”

Current activities

After winning second place in the GEMASTIK event, Andreas together with his colleagues in the Information Technology department formed a community called “Paguyuban Linux Solo”. He hopes that this community will accommodate young people in Solo who want to distribute their interests in Information Technology.

“I see that IT Community activities in Solo are very lacking, especially in Open Source / Linux. From that, my friends and I founded the Paguyuban Linux Solo as a forum or community to share and learn about Open Source in Solo.”
